🤝🎓 Supporting the non-Polish-speaking Doctoral Community 🎓 🤝
To support our PhD Candidates from abroad, we can introduce a number of activities to facilitate their everyday functioning in the academic environment. Some of the proposed solutions include: multilingual documents, English-language websites, support groups, policy inclusions, and technological assistance.
Together we can build a more open and accessible academic environment! 👇
💬📑 Multilingual Support:
Providing essential documents, forms, and academic resources in multiple languages, especially in English, to ensure that all students can access the information they need without language barriers.
🗣️ Language Courses:
Offering language courses specifically tailored for academic purposes, helping students gain proficiency in Polish to better integrate both academically and socially.
💮 Cultural Orientation Programs:
Implementing orientation sessions that help international students understand and adapt to Polish culture and academic norms.
🌎 International Student Offices:
Establishing dedicated offices that offer support and guidance on issues ranging from visa procedures to academic and personal challenges specific to international students.
👥 Peer Mentoring Programs:
Creating programs where senior PhD students or local students mentor international students, providing them with guidance and support as they navigate their new environment.
🧑🏫 Inclusive Teaching Practices:
Encouraging faculty to adopt teaching methods that are inclusive of students from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds, such as ensuring that key course materials are available in English.
🧠 Enhanced Access to Mental Health Services:
Providing mental health services with staff trained in cultural sensitivity, offering support in multiple languages to address the specific needs of international students.
🤝 Networking Opportunities:
Organizing networking events that allow international students to connect with industry professionals, alumni, and other students to build valuable relationships.
🎓 Student Integration Activities:
Facilitating participation in university clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities that can help international students build a community and feel less isolated.
💻 Online Platforms and Forums:
Developing online platforms where students can access academic content, engage with peers, and receive updates about university events and important notices in their preferred language.
